Entrance and Exit Loan Counseling
Borrowing a federal student loan is an important financial obligation. In order to understand your rights and responsibilities as a borrower, the federal government requires that you complete an Entrance loan counseling session before you borrow and an exit loan counseling session when you graduate. There are different loan counseling sessions depending on the type of loan that you have borrowed. If you have borrowed multiple loan types (Stafford and Perkins, for example), you will be expected to complete multiple loan counseling sessions.
Entrance Counseling Sessions
- Direct Loan Entrance Counseling (for those borrowing through the Federal Direct loan program ONLY)
- Grad PLUS Entrance Counseling
Exit Counseling Sessions
- Stafford Exit Counseling
- Direct Loan Exit Counseling (for those borrowing through the Federal Direct loan program ONLY)
- Perkins Exit Counseling
- Grad PLUS Exit Counseling
Please note - the exit counseling sessions will request private information including your name, date of birth, and social security number. This information is secure and will be used solely to report that you completed the counseling session.
The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) is the US Department of Education's centralized resource for information about all federal student loans that you have borrowed. You can find information about all of your current and prior student loans, even those you may have borrowed at a prior college or university.
