Extract List Servers

There are several email list servers available for 1) notification of problems with the Sybase extracts, 2) notification of delays in loading of the Sybase extracts, and 3) general discussion about the usage of the Sybase extracts. To receive these email notifications, you need to subscribe to one or more of the appropriate list servers. The following three list servers are available for the major Sybase extracts:

• apps_extracts
• pics_extracts
• fas_extracts

Subscribe to the List Server

To subscribe to a list server, send an email message to,

listserv@acs.ncsu.edu

or if you're using Groupwise,

i:listserv@acs.ncsu.edu

In the body of the message, enter the following line with the name of the list you want to subscribe to <listserver>, your first name <firstname> and your last name <lastname>,

subscribe <listserver> <firstname> <lastname>

For example, if John Doe were subscribing to the apps_extracts list server, he would send a message containing the single line,

subscribe apps_extracts John Doe

If you wish to subscribe to more than one listserver at a time, you may include more than one subscription request in the same mail message. Just make sure that you only include commands to the list server in your message. If you include a signature, please delete it from your mail message. The list server is an automated mechanism which only understands a small set of commands and any extraneous portions of the command message will not be understood. If the list server doesn't understand your message it will send you a reply marked as an Invalid Request.

or if you're using Groupwise,

i:listserv@acs.ncsu.edu

In the body of the mail message enter the following line,

help

Sending a Message to all Subscribers

To post a message to the list with a copy sent to all subscribers, send a message to the name of the list server, followed by the phrase @acs.ncsu.edu. For example, to post a message to the apps_extracts list server, send the message to:

apps_extracts@acs.ncsu.edu

or if you're using Groupwise,

i:apps_extracts@acs.ncsu.edu

Then enter the subject and body of the message. Note that when you send a message to the list, everyone on the list will see it, so be sure that you only post messages (or reply to messages) with information that is of general interest to the entire list.
