Tuition: Receipts for tuition are used to defray a part of the total cost of instruction and other academic expenses. The annual undergraduate rate is $3,860 for North Carolina residents and $16,158 for nonresidents. The annual graduate rate is $4,860 for North Carolina residents and $17,158 for nonresidents.
Required Fees - Academic Year Rates
Required fees must be paid by all students. Students are entitled to the services, facilities, and programs offered by the Student Center, Health Services, Physical Education Department, and Athletics Department. An itemization of required fees can be provided upon request.
Education and Technology Fee - This academic fee of $371.00 is used by colleges and schools to equip and operate computing and scientific laboratories which supplement classroom instruction.
Intercollegiate Athletics Fee - This fee of $134.00 provides partial support of the intercollegiate athletic program.
Student Health Services Fee - This fee of $233.00 is used by the University Health Center to offer medical and counseling services to students.
Recreational Sports Fee - This fee of $112.60 is used to defray the cost of operating and maintaining recreational sports programs, facilities, and fields.
Student Government Fee - This fee of $8.85 is allocated to the Student Government for distribution to Campus organizations for activities that they deem are in the best interest of the student body.
Student Publications Fee - This fee of $15.00 is used to defray the cost of the various campus-wide student publications. At present, these include two student newspapers, a yearbook, a radio station, and "The Windover" (a literary magazine).
School Fee - This fee of $5.00 for undergraduates and $16.00 for graduate students is collected for use by the student associations in each of the colleges.
Student Legal Services Fee - This fee of $10.00 funds the student legal services program which offers legal services to all students.
Transit System Fee - This fee of $130.00 partially funds the campus transit system.
Student Center Operations - This fee of $203.40 supports the operations, activities, and programs offered by the University Student Center.
Student Activity Reserve - This fee of $.40 serves as a contingency for unanticipated expense involving student programs.
Intercollegiate Athletics Indebtedness Fees - This $66.00 fee is used for the Department of Athletics in support of facility improvements, renovations, repairs and maintenance.
Student Center Repairs and Renovations - This fee of $26.95 is used to maintain and upgrade the Talley Student Center, Price Music Center, Witherspoon Student Center, and Thompson Theater.
Association of Student Governments - This fee of $1.00 is charged at all UNC institutions to help finance the Association of Student Governments, a coalition of student leaders from across the state, and is to be used for administrative staff, travel and small stipends for student leaders.
Union Activities Board (UAB) - This fee of $13.80 supports the UAB which is the main programming body for the campus which is responsible for acquiring, scheduling, publicizing, and presenting films, speakers, and special events.
Carmichael Gymnasium Expansion Indebtedness Fees - This $45.00 fee is pledged to retire the indebtness on the addition to Carmichael Gymnasium that will include a fitness center and outdoor recreation services.
Thompson Theater Building Indebtedness - This $38.00 fee is pledged to support renovation for the Thompson Theater Building.

College of Engineering Computer Fee -
Students enrolled in the College of Engineering will be charged a College of Engineering Computer Fee. Undergraduates will be charged $45 (12 or more hours), $34 (9-11 hours), $23 (6-8 hours), and $12 (0-5 hours). Graduate students will be charged $45 regardless of hours carried.
Professional Golf Management Fee - Students enrolled in the Professional Golf Management program (PGM) will be charged $200/semester. The fee pays for golf play and practice privileges at several area golf courses.
Transfer Student Orientation Fee and New Student Orientation Fee - This one time fee of $45.00 is charged to new undergraduate transfer students admitted in the Summer, Fall, or Spring. It is also charged to new undergraduate freshmen and Agriculture Institute students admitted in the Spring. This is a mandatory fee that all enrolled students are billed, whether or not they attend orientation.
New Student Orientation Fee - This one time fee of $115.00 is charged to new freshmen undergraduate and Agriculture Institute students who enter during the Summer and Fall semester. This is a mandatory fee that all enrolled students are billed, whether or not they attend orientation.
International Orientation Fee - This one time fee of $40.00 is charged to new international degree students, graduate and undergraduate, during their first semester of enrollment.
New Graduate Student Orientation Fee - This one time fee of $15.00 is charged to new Graduate students who are admitted and enroll in the Fall or Spring semester. This is a required fee billed to all newly enrolled graduate students regardless of their actual attendance at orientation.
Internship Liability Insurance - Students enrolled in an internship course will be charged $18 for this insurance. The insurance provides coverage for an insured party that becomes legally liable to pay damages because of property damage, bodily injury or personal injury because of their participation in a university internship program. Late Registration Fee - The late registration fee is $100.00. Late registration starts July 23, 2008 and ends September 3, 2008 at 5:00 pm. The "late late" registration fee is $150.00 after September 3, 2008.
