Tuition and Fees

Explanation of Tuition and Required Fees - Summer 2008

Required fees must be paid by all students. Students are entitled to the services, facilities, and programs offered by the Student Center, Health Services, Physical Education Department, and Athletics Department.

Education and Technology Fee - This academic fee of $12.30 per credit hour for Undergraduates and $18.55 per credit hour for Graduates, used by colleges and schools to equip and operate computing and scientific laboratories that supplement classroom instruction.

Intercollegiate Athletics Fee - This fee of $4.65 per credit hour for Undergraduates and $6.60 for Graduates, provides partial support of the intercollegiate athletic program.

Student Health Services Fee - This fee of $7.85 per credit hour for Undergraduates and $11.65 for Graduates, is used by the University Health Center to offer medical and counseling services to students.

Recreational Sports Fee - This fee of $3.10 per credit hour for Undergraduates and $4.45 for Graduates, is used to defray the cost of operating and maintaining the intramural recreational sports program and other physical education programs.

Student Legal Services Fee - This fee of $.35 per credit hour for Undergraduates and $.45 for Graduates, funds the student legal services program which offers legal services to all students.

Transit System Fee - This fee of $4.45 per credit hour for Undergraduates and $5.90 for Graduates, partially funds the campus transit system.

Student Center Operations - This fee of $7.60 per credit hour for Undergraduates and $9.85 for Graduates, supports the operations, activities, and programs offered by the University Student Center.

Student Health Services Debt Services Fee - This $1.00 per credit hour for Undergraduates and $1.40 for Graduates, is pledged to retire bonds issued for construction of the student health services facility.

Intercollegiate Athletics Indebtedness Fees - This $2.65 per credit hour for Undergraduates and $2.80 for Graduates, is used for the Department of Athletics in support of facility improvements, renovations, repairs and maintenance.

Association of Student Governments - This fee of $.05 per credit hour fee for both Undergraduate and Graduates, is charged at all UNC institutions to help finance the Association of Student Governments, a coalition of student leaders from across the state, and is to be used for administrative staff, travel and small stipends for student leaders.

Union Activities Board (UAB) - This $.50 per credit hour for Undergraduates and $.65 for Graduates, supports the UAB which is the main programming body for the campus which is responsible for acquiring, scheduling, publicizing, and presenting films, speakers, and special events.

Carmichael Gymnasium Expansion Indebtedness Fees - This $1.80 per credit hour fee for Undergraduates and $1.95 for Graduates, is pledged to retire the indebtness on the addition to Carmichael Gymnasium that will include a fitness center and outdoor recreation services.

Thompson Theater Building Indebtedness - This $.70 fee for Undergraduates and $1.70 for Graduates is pledged to support renovation for the Thompson Theater Building.

Other
College of Engineering Computer Fee - This fee is an additional fee that is not included in the regular tuition and fees rate. Students enrolled in the College of Engineering (including the BE, BEA, BEE, BEM, BAE, BEP, TE and PSE) are charged $15 per summer session for undergraduates and $20 per summer session for graduates.

Late Registration Fee - The late registration fee is $35.00. Late registration for Summer Session I starts on April 22, 2008 and ends May 21, 2008 at 5:00 pm. For Summer Session II, it begins June 10, 2008 and ends July 10, 2008. The "late, late" registration fee is $100.00 on May 22, 2008 for Summer Session I and July 11, 2008 for Summer Session II.
