I signed up for direct deposit today. How long before I can receive my first direct deposit transaction?
When a student signs up for direct deposit a prenote transaction is created and processed. The prenote is a $0.00 transaction that tests the validity of the account information entered. No direct deposits of refunds can occur during the prenote process which takes approximately 10 days. Instead, any refunds processed during that time will be in the form of a check. Once the prenote is successful, all refunds will be deposited electronically. We encourage you to sign up for direct deposit now so your direct deposit account will be ready when your refund is processed by the Cashier's Office.

I signed up for direct deposit this semester. Do I have to sign up again next semester?
No, a direct deposit consent request remains in effect as long as you are in school. Just remember that if your checking account information changes, please update your information by logging into the MyPACK Portal, select "Student Self Service", "Campus Finances", and "Account Summary". Select the "Direct Deposit" button. Enter the new routing and account number information and click "Add/Update Bank Info". If you close your checking account, you will select "Remove Direct Deposit".

Can you deposit money into savings accounts?
No, the Cashier's Office can only make direct deposits to checking accounts.

Can I get my financial aid prior to semester beginning?
Because financial aid can only be disbursed to enrolled students, the University is not allowed to disburse any financial aid prior to the first day of class each semester/term.

How long will it take for financial aid to be deposited to my checking account?
The Cashier's Office sends out financial aid direct deposit transactions as soon as they are received. The financial aid should be in your checking account within two business days.

What about the first day of class? I need my money on the first day of class and can't afford to wait for two business days for the deposit to occur.
The Cashier's Office processes the first financial aid direct deposit batch for the semester prior to the first day of class. That allows financial aid to be posted to the student's checking account on the first day of class.

Why is it one or two business days for the direct deposit to get to my checking account? Don't you know exactly how long it will take for the money to get to my account?
Financial aid is disbursed to NC State's bank, Wachovia, on the day received. During Wachovia's nightly processing, financial aid is sent out to the receiving banks (the student's bank). Each receiving bank posts transactions at different times during their business day. Your bank could receive your financial aid before or after their daily posting of direct deposit transactions. That is the reason that we cannot be more specific about the timing of deposits.

Will someone notify me when refunds are deposited to my checking account?
The Cashier's Office will provide notification on the Account Summary Page on the MyPACK Portal as to direct deposit transactions that have taken place. Select "Student Self Service", "Campus Finances", and "Account Summary".

I signed up for direct deposit but my financial aid hasn't come through. What's going on?
Use MyPACK Portal to access your student account. If a FAO - Award Repayment hold is displayed on the Account Summary page, you apparently owe a repayment of previous financial aid awarded to you, and future financial aid awards will not be disbursed until you contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid to rectify this situation.

If you were awarded financial aid but your funds have not yet been disbursed, the problem could be related to the number of hours for which you are currently registered. Your financial aid award letter would have told you the number of hours you must take each term to receive the funds awarded to you. If you are registered for fewer hours than the number on which your award was based, your funds will not be disbursed until you register for the additional hours needed. If you believe that you are registered for the correct number of hours or do not plan to register for the appropriate number of credit hours, contact your financial aid counselor in the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Will you ever go into my checking account for any reason other than to make a deposit?
In the event that a refund is disbursed to you in error by direct deposit, the University reserves the right to debit your checking account for the amount of the overpayment. NACHA, the national automated clearing house association, requires that we notify you before processing a debit against your account. Otherwise, the Cashier's Office will not use the information contained on the direct deposit request form for any purpose other than direct deposit transactions.

If I decide that I don't want direct deposit but I have already signed up, what should I do?
Login to MyPACK Portal and select "Student Self Service", "Campus Finances", and "Account Summary". Select the "Direct Deposit" button. Choose the "Remove Direct Deposit" button to delete your direct deposit information. Any refunds issued will be made via check to your home/mailing address as listed in the MyPACK Portal.
