Why do you charge interest?
NC State charges Interest on delinquent balances in order to comply with state law (G.S.147-86.23).
To what charges does interest apply?
Any semester-related charge incurred before the census date of the term becomes delinquent if unpaid more than 90 days after the due date. Charges that are delinquent will be charged interest.
If you have a delinquent balance, interest will be imposed on that balance, and continue until paid. Additional interest will be imposed on new charges, as they become delinquent.
How much is the interest?
Interest will be charged on a delinquent unpaid charge from the date the charge was due at the rate of 5% per year until paid.
I didn’t receive a bill; will you still charge interest?
Yes. It is the student’s responsibility to pay amounts owed, even if they do not receive a mailed bill. Student account information is accessible via MyPACK Portal. Select "Main Menu", "Student Self Service", "Campus Finances", and "Account Summary".
I will be using the monthly payment plan. Will this affect me?
As long as you make your payments on time, you will not be affected. The final payment under the Plan will be due before 90 days after the due date.
Does this mean I have the option to not pay and just pay interest?
No. Unpaid amounts may still result in a hold being placed on your account, not being allowed to register, or cancellation of schedule. The interest on an unpaid balance is in addition to any other action that may be taken in the normal course of the semester. In addition, if an account remains unpaid, the University will submit the account for collection in accordance with State guidelines.
What is the latest date that I can pay my bill for the current semester?
You can view this information online by clicking on billing schedule.
I am attending the University under the GI Bill and my benefits have been delayed. How long will you defer my payment before you charge interest?
With proper documentation, the university will not charge interest for students attending under the GI Bill until after the last day exams for the current semester. For complete information on paying under the GI Bill please go to http://www.fis.ncsu.edu/cashier/payment/gibill.asp.
I am an international student and am getting a loan from my home country, but the funds will not be here until mid-semester. Can I have a little more time since I applied for my funds way in advance to make sure the money would be here on time but for unforeseen reasons beyond my control the money has not yet arrived?
The student has the responsibility to pay tuition & fees when due. If there is a delay in making payment beyond the point the account becomes delinquent (90 days after the due date) then the account will be charged interest.
