Accounting for local area networking and other information technology costs

University Accounting has added new accounts (objects) to the Chart of Accounts for recording local area networking and other information technology costs.  These accounts must be used as of the effective date given in the attached listing.  In the case of a July 1, 2002 effective date, the departments/colleges need to identify any expenditure that has already been recorded this year for these items.  The attached list provides definitions of the new and existing accounts for networking costs to help with their identification and understanding.  If your department/college has had expenditures in this area please notify Maria Brown in University Accounting who will coordinate all reclassification entries in Financials.

These changes are in response to a request by the leadership of the legislative information technology committees to expand the statewide chart of accounts to capture all networking costs, including local area networking costs.
