Algebra Camp Elementary School Students
Algebra Camp is a one-week camp for middle school students who would like to develop the skills necessary to succeed in Algebra. For more information, visit The Science House website.

Discover Engineering
Discover Engineering is a week-long day camp for middle school students (rising 6th – 9th graders). Students experience engineering through hands-on, creative investigations and building activities. The camp will show students what engineering is about including how engineers are involved in everyday products like CD’s, shampoo, and food. Imhotep Academy
Imhotep Academy introduces under-represented students (African-American, Hispanic, Native American, and Women) in 6th – 8th grades to science, mathematics and technology at NC State University. The program uses laboratory experiments, research projects, classroom instruction, and field trips to introduce students to the rigorous and exciting worlds of chemistry, mathematics, marine, earth and atmospheric sciences, physics and statistics. Kyran Anderson Academy
The Kyran Anderson Academy is designed to enhance a student’s enthusiasm for science and mathematics. The program demonstrates that science and mathematics can be fun and are important to everyday life. The program features scientists and inventors from underrepresented groups. NC-MSEN Summer Scholars Program

Dates: July 7, 2008 – July 18, 2008

Deadline: Application deadline has been extended until program is full.

Cost: $200.00

The NC State University NC-MSEN Pre-College Program offers a 2-week summer program on NC State’s campus. The program provides classes in math, science, and technology for middle and high school students, and a class in cultural awareness (for middle school students only). The main focus of the program is to prepare students for the math course they are taking in the fall. Students are grouped together according to their current math class (from the 2007-08 school year). Middle school students must attend the full-day program while high school students have the option to attend for a half-day or a full-day. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher to participate in this program.

Study Skills Course for Middle School Students

August 11-15, 2008

Rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders
The Study Skills Course focuses on organization, learning strategies, and test-taking skills. The course is one-week long, and students are grouped by grade (6th – 8th). For more information, visit the Study Skills Course website.

Young Writers' Workshop
The Young Writers' Workshop, a nonresidential writing camp, brings 4th – 8th grade students to the NCSU campus to study creative writing with published NC writers. The two-week, afternoon workshop offers classes in fiction, poetry, and drama every summer. Other classes in science fiction and creative nonfiction are offered when teachers are available. Programs Throughout the Year for Elementary and Middle School Students (3rd-8th graders)

(ETS) Educational Talent Search Program
The ETS Program provides programming to middle and high school students. The program’s mission is to provide equal access to quality education and facilitate retention and promotion from middle and high school through college. This program is federally funded and students must meet federal admissions criteria, attend one of the targeted schools, and demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing education beyond high school. Expanding Your Horizons
A conference to encourage eighth grade girls to consider careers in science, mathematics, or engineering. An exciting day in which over 400 girls, 70 teachers and 50 women scientists will gather to learn about and do science. Participants are identified by their schools to attend. North Carolina Math and Science Education Network (NC-MSEN) Pre-College Program
The North Carolina Math and Science Education Network (NC-MSEN) Pre-College Program provides year-round mentoring and academic opportunities to underserved students in grades 6-12. The NC-MSEN Pre-College Program spans the state, with locations in nine universities across North Carolina. The program prepares students for college and the pursuit of careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and related fields. NC-MSEN Pre-College Program students are highly successful: 98 percent go on to four-year colleges or universities, and 82 percent choose STEM and education career paths. SPACE (Saturday Program for Academic and Cultural Education)
SPACE is designed for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. SPACE focuses on: exposing students to a core curriculum designed to challenge and inspire excellence; developing assertive, young leaders; and promoting a positive self image. SPACE supplements the instruction that students receive during the school year through a concentration on the following academic focus areas: Cultural and Historical Awareness, Communication Skills, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Physical and Life Sciences.
