Filing for a Patent
A thesis or dissertation containing disclosures of patentable discoveries may be held by the Graduate School before microfilming and/or filing in D. H. Hill Library for a maximum period of one year after disclosure. This hold is granted upon the receipt of a written request from the chair/co-chair and co-signed by the student stating that a patent application is pending. This written request must be submitted with the final copies of the thesis or dissertation. Holding a thesis until a patent application is filed will not prevent a student from graduating on time.
BINDING OF PERSONAL COPIES
No paper copies will be issued through the Graduate School.
Students interested in having personal copies of their thesis or dissertation hard-bound may do so at their own expense by contacting University Graphics directly. The student may choose to have University Graphics print the copies or you may provide University Graphics with the copies which you wish to have bound, and each copy would need to be submitted in individual envelopes, one copy per envelope. Please visit University Graphics web site at http://www.fis.ncsu.edu/materialsmgmt/Graphics for order forms for thesis services and printing requests. The binding process takes approximately one month, and the student will pay for the binding by cash or check either before or at the time the bound copies are returned from the bindery. The cost of hard-bound copies is $15.00 each under 300 pages.
A master's thesis can be bound with a burgundy or black cover and gold or white letters on the spine while a doctoral dissertation can be bound with a blue or black cover and gold or white letters on the spine. The student's full name, degree and date may be imprinted on the spine but not the thesis or dissertation title. The title may be added to the front cover at a cost of $1.50 per line per book (maximum of 40 characters including spaces per line)
University Graphics is located in Admin I on Sullivan Drive, or at 515-2131.
