Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance (AD&D)

Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance is available to eligible employees through the Office of State Personnel's NCFlex benefits program. Coverage is provided by AC Newman and Company, and pays a benefit if a covered participant suffers a loss as the result of a covered accident while insured under the plan. A benefit is also payable if certain disabling injuries occur while covered.

Additional plan provisions at no extra cost include education benefits, child care benefits, seat belt coverage, survivor's benefit, common disaster benefit, enhancement for children, and world-wide emergency travel assistance services.

Who's Eligible?

Permanent employees who work at least 20 hours or more per week for 9 or more months per year are eligible to enroll in all NCFlex benefit plans including AD&D. Participating employees may elect coverage for a legal spouse, and children up to the age of 19 or 26 if a full-time student.

How Much Coverage Can I Purchase?

The amount of insurance purchased by the employee is called the principal sum. If family coverage is elected and a loss is incurred, the amount paid is a percentage of the principal sum, as if the employee suffered the loss.

Note: The amount of coverage will decrease upon attainment of age 70.
