Death Benefit
If a TSERS participant dies while in active service after one year of contributing membership service (or within 180 days of service separation if contributions have not been withdrawn), the beneficiary/beneficiaries will receive a single lump sum payment. The benefit amount is based on the highest 12 consecutive months of salary within the 24-month period preceding death. The benefit amount is no less than $25,000 and no more than $50,000.
Note: Members of the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) are ineligible for this death benefit.
