Moms at Work Program
Having a baby can be the most exciting time in a woman's life. It also is a challenging time for achieving a balance between work and family goals. The Deer Oaks Moms at Work program is designed to help working moms adjust successfully to the physical, social, emotional and financial changes associated with the transition into motherhood.
This unique program focuses on the health and well-being of an expectant or new mother. Maternity counselors are available through Deer Oaks toll-free phone number to help a woman focus on her goals both in the workplace and as a mother. Specific time management, financial and emotional counseling are offered as supplemental services to the new mom and her family. This program provides the psychosocial and educational support needed to provide moms with the skills that will help to promote a healthy pregnancy and positive transition into motherhood.
Matters of the Heart Program
Deer Oaks provides a monthly electronic article on the mind-body connection. Some of the topics covered include diabetes, exercise, nutrition, stress management, hypertension, cancer recovery, thyroid disorders, substance abuse, asthma and allergies. The article is designed to increase participant awareness of physical health, and the impact of health on emotional and mental well-being.
Parenting Toolkit
The Parenting Toolkit is a feature developed to support working parents. This program involves a monthly electronic parenting article designed to help parents understand and cope with the developmental stages of children from birth to teens. Child psychologists have reviewed articles and information relevant to a number of child/ adolescent development and emotional/ behavioral issues, and those articles are online as well. These links are available through the Deer Oaks website.
Taking the High Road on the Highways Program
While NC State and Deer Oaks do not endorse substance abuse or overindulgence, this program offers a free ride home when participants are impaired by alcohol or other substances, including drowsiness from prescription or over-the-counter medications. This program enables a participant to call a cab for a free ride home from a counseling session, worksite, private party, restaurant or bar, and be reimbursed by Deer Oaks for the cab fare.
The process is simple, and like all other Deer Oaks services, confidential. Participants call the toll free phone number to ask how to obtain reimbursement and are instructed to simply mail a receipt from the taxicab service to Deer Oaks. Participants are then encouraged to discuss the dangers of frequent and infrequent substance abuse.
Personal Plan Programs
Personal Plan Programs are made available to participants in areas of assertiveness, self-esteem, depression, stress, and other issues. Personal Plans involve helpful checklists, resources, articles, informational literature, and readily available research to assist participants as they address and improve these areas of their lives. Personal Plans are available through the Deer Oaks website.
