Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986
The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires employers to verify the employment eligibility of persons working in the United States who are:
- Citizens of the US,
- Nationals of the US, or,
- Aliens authorized to work in the US.
The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires employers to hire only US citizens, Nationals of the US, or Aliens who are authorized to work in the US. The law requires every employer to verify the employment eligibility of every employee hired after November 6, 1986. Employers are not to discriminate against individuals on the basis of national origin or citizenship.
