J-1 Professional / Professor / Scholar
J-1 professional/professor/scholar visas are for individuals in the as visiting researchers, professors, short-term scholars, or specialists under the auspices of the Department of State (DS) and a designated program sponsor. J-1 Exchange Visitor (Short-term Scholar, Professor, Researcher, or Specialist)
- Form DS 2019 and I-94 card
- May be paid by sponsoring institution
- May not enroll in a formal degree-granting academic program
Employment Restrictions:
- Eligible to receive payment from organization listed on Form DS 2019 and/or the Designated Program Sponsor for the period of validity as stated on the D2019 form
- Under limited circumstances, may receive compensation from other institutions with prior written authorization from OIS. DS 2019 form authorizes employment.
- May not accept tenure track or permanent positions
Sponsor/Employer Requirements:
- Proof of financial support
- Request for DS 2019 Form (http://www.ncsu.edu/oisss) Offer letter with goals and objectives of program
