O-1 Extraordinary Visa
O-1 extraordinary visas are for individuals of extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics who are in the United States to work for a sponsoring employer or organization.
- Individuals with extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics
- Form I-797 and I-94 card
- May be employed and compensated only by the petitioning employer or agency through whom the status was obtained
Employment Restrictions
- Employment permitted only with sponsoring institution and with INS approval
- Dependents (O-3) may not be employed
Sponsor/Employer Requirements:
- Liable for the return transport home, if the sponsor/employer dismisses the alien early
- Must have written contract
