Section Two

  • Section 2 of the I-9 should be completed by the hiring department when the employee presents documents that establish both identity and employment eligibility.
  • The employee must choose which items from the List of Acceptable Documents they would like to present as proof of identity and employment eligibility.
  • List A documents establish both identity and employment eligibility. If an employee presents a List A document, they will not need to provide a List B or List C document.
  • List B documents show proof of identity only.
  • List C documents show proof of employment eligibility only.
  • If an employee presents a List B document, they must also present a document from List C.
