Description of duties and/or responsibilities:
AFS Intercultural Programs is a world wide non-profit
organization that places both high school and college students in foreign countries in a
wide variety of summer, one semester and year-long programs in both educational/family and
community service settings. The Wake County AFS chapter recruits and sends area high
school students abroad and also recruits and matches area host families with students
coming from overseas. The chapter is looking for NCSU students to help with a wide variety
of activities:
Fundraising :
Finding sponsors (Kiwanis, Jaycees, etc) Other?
Publicity - to attract students interested in going abroad and families interested in hosting by:
Identifying:
Middle and high school teachers/administrators to serve as contacts
HS International clubs
Other local organizations - e.g., Scouts, community groups, religious orgs.
Organizing: Info nights at area schools, other sites (see above)
Recruiting AFS returnees to help promote AFS

Volunteer opportunities available:
Mordecai Historic Park Docent - Docents conduct guided tours of the plantation house and other historic buildings, including the birthplace of President Andrew Johnson, and educate visitors in Raleigh's early history and growth.
Hands on History - Assist school age children in experiencing the scents, sights and textures of the past through hands-on activities at Mordecai Historic Park.
Gardening - The Ellen Mordecai Garden is kept up by a team of volunteer gardeners. The Garden is representative of the 1800's with period herbs and vegetables.

Volunteer Position Title: Volunteer Description of duties and or responsibilities: Volunteer are asked to help with variety of Fiesta activities, including selling soft drinks and T-shirts, giving information to festival-goers, working with the children's games, setting up Fiesta events, trash, runners (they do whatever is need) and many other activities.

Volunteer Position Title: El Pueblo is a non-profit Latino advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening the Latino community through leadership development, cultural programs, education, and civic participation. El Pueblo Votes! is a short-term nonpartisan campaign targeted at the Latino population to increase civic participation and to strengthen American democracy by increasing voter participation.
We need volunteers to help in the office by making phone
calls, signs, and informational packets for potential voters throughout the month of
October. Then, during the weekend before Election Day, November 2nd and 3rd, we need
people to walk throughout targeted neighborhoods, and to canvass. Election Day,
Tuesday, November 5th,we will also have canvassing efforts, as well as, driving people to
the polls.

Volunteer Position Title: Volunteer and Intern Coordinator
Description of duties and/or responsibilities: Work with visitors on the floor in one of our four exhibit/experience areas: People and Places (dynamic people and changing places-multicultural), TradeWorks (international trade and its global effects), Living in Balance (the sharing and renewal of natural resources), and Many Voices (the power of communication - lots of computer interactives).
What are the time requirements and or special skills needed for this position: Flexible - 2 to 4 four hour shifts per month, for semester. Orientation and Training are ongoing.

Volunteer Position Title: Volunteer
Description of duties and/or responsibilities: We are looking for volunteers, age 16 and older, from June 21 through September 15, to help with the exhibit Portraits of the Presidents from the National Portrait Gallery. Volunteers are needed to man a booth at the entrance of the exhibit and assist visitors with audio-tour guides.
What are the time requirements and or special skills needed for this position: The exhibit will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m

Volunteer Position Title: Tour Guide, some research assistance and/or internships

Volunteer Position Title: Store Sales Associate
Description of duties and/or responsibilities: Volunteering
at Ten Thousand Villages allows you to learn more about the fair trade movement and to
work with others who are motivated by the mission. As a non-profit store, we rely greatly
on the support of volunteers. Your efforts help to make a difference in the lives of
artisans worldwide. Volunteers are encouraged to learn about the artisan groups and
their products so that they can be advocates for the artisans. Possible volunteer tasks
include: training to be salesclerks, unpacking and checking in inventory, helping to
create displays, and assisting in day-to-day store operations. We also are involved with
off-site sales in the community. We encourage people of all backgrounds to become
involved.
Special volunteer needs: Light data input, Grant Writer, Off-site Presenter, In-store
Special Events Manager, Off-site sales support staff, In-Store Education coordinator,
Graphic arts
What are the time requirements and or special skills needed for this position: Our
only requirements include a minimum commitment of eight hours, or two shifts a month, an
enthusiasm for the mission, a sense of responsibility and trustworthiness, and a
willingness to learn. We do also have one-time volunteer opportunities available
