Volunteer Position Title: Volunteer

Volunteer Position Title: Mentor

Description of duties and/or responsibilities: Our mentoring program has started in August. Last year we mentored 79 3rd thru 5th graders. There is a mentoring classroom set up with all the necessary resources and individual work stations. Lesson plans are provided by the homeroom teachers. The coordinator assists mentors as needed in instruction.  Mentors are asked to commit to at leash 30 minutes per week. Our school is located 15 minutes from campus.  You are welcome to stay longer and come more often. Our at risk students must pass the EOG test each May in order to be promoted to the next grade.

Volunteer Position Title: Volunteer

Description of duties and/or responsibilities: HopeLine is a 24-hour crisis line that provides listening and referral services to callers free of charge. Volunteers must complete 30 hours of classroom training before taking calls on their own. Volunteers cover three four-hour shifts per month. Teen TalkLine volunteers must be aged 22 or younger. They provide listening services to teen callers and must also complete 30 hours of classroom training. Teen TalkLine is open Monday through Friday from 4pm to 8pm. PhoneFriends are volunteers that handle elementary school-aged callers. They share jokes and listen to concerns. PhoneFriends is open from 3pm to 6pm Monday through Friday. PhoneFriends are required to complete a 90-minute training course.

What are the time requirements and or special skills needed for this position: Anyone can volunteer; all training is provided. HopeLine workers are trained on how to handle calls concerning loneliness, depression, substance abuse, suicide, interpersonal problems and other situations. Mentors- Mentoring is a one-on-one contact between a youth and an adult over a prolonged period of time. Description of duties and/or responsibilities: Volunteers needed to process toys which may involve unpacking of donated items, then sorting and bagging for cleaning; tagging/bowing of cleaned stuffed toys; checking games and puzzles to make certain all parts are there; packing boxes for disaster inventory; and many other small tasks as needed. Volunteers will need their own transportation to processing site in Louisburg.  Volunteers are encouraged to initiate fundraising efforts on behalf of Operation Toy Box. There are two established fundraisers but also encourage independent ideas as well which must be approved by Operation Toy Box before begun.
