Volunteer Position Title: Walker/fundraiser

Description of duties and/or responsibilities: The goal for each walker is to raise a minimum of $100.  Everyone who raises $100+ will receive a t-shirt and other prizes will be awarded at higher levels in addition to the t-shirts.   Over 600,000 North Carolinians are affected by diabetes - YOU can make a difference!  Walkers are asked to obtain sponsors for their six-mile walk to raise money to help prevent and cure diabetes.   Call or visit our webpage for registration information.  Other volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year.

Volunteer Position Title: Duke Cancer Patient Support Program Clinic volunteer

Description of duties and/or responsibilities: Cancer patient support program clinic volunteers provide hospitality, emotional support, companionship and resource information regarding support groups, counseling and other services.

Volunteer Position Title: Family Support Volunteers, Office Volunteers, Reflections Program (Puppeteers, Children's Support Group Volunteers), Event Volunteers.

Description of duties and/or responsibilities: Family Support Volunteers provide practical and emotional support to patients in their homes. There is an 18-hour training requirement. Office volunteers do general clerical work in office on St. Mary's Street. Reflections Program Volunteers fall into two categories: Puppeteers and Children's Support Group Volunteers. Call for details. The Hospice can also always use volunteers to help with the year's largest fundraiser, Oktoberfest, which is held the last weekend in September.

What are the time requirements and or special skills needed for this position: All volunteers are asked to give at least a one-year commitment to the organization. Office volunteers work 3 to 4 hours per week. Support groups are held twice per year in 8-week sessions. Puppeteers are needed for about 4 hours/month and should be available during the day. Family supporters can expect to give about 4 hours per week.
