Volunteer Position Title: Client Services Representatives and Food Servers

Description of duties and/or responsibilities: Individuals needed for client services (front desk activities, answering phones, interacting with residents in an informal way). Volunteer groups (preferably 4 to 12 volunteers) needed to cook breakfast for Center  residents (supplies provided) There are approximately 36 people, plus staff living at the Center. Small groups (3 to 5 volunteers) also needed to assist in serving dinner.  All residents are over age 18 and are dealing with a variety of social issues: substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, loss of family, etc.

What are the time requirements and or special skills needed for this position: Weekly and monthly commitments needed. 4-7pm or 6:30 -10am, flexible on weekends.

Volunteer Position Title: Office Assistant, Warehouse Assistant, Speakers' Bureau Volunteer, Kids' Cafe Volunteer

Description of duties and/or responsibilities: Office assistants help with mail sorting and other clerical work (answering phones, entering data, preparing bulk mailings, etc.) at either the Raleigh or Durham branch of the Food Bank.

Warehouse assistants repack and sort salvaged food and pick up small donations and sort eggs.

Speakers' Bureau volunteers give tours of the Food Bank and conduct interactive programs for corporate, religious and school groups to educate the public about hunger in North Carolina.

Kids' Cafe volunteers tutor elementary and middle school students in an afterschool nutrition and enrichment program. Tutors, servers, cooks and curriculum planners are all needed for programs near NC State.

What are the time requirements and or special skills needed for this position: Office and Warehouse Assistants can be used just once or on a more regular basis depending on the how often the volunteer is willing to help out. Office and warehouse hours are: 9-12 and 1-4 Tuesday through Friday. The warehouse is additionally open Saturday from 9-12 and 1-4 and 6-8 on Wednesday evening. Call to schedule a time. Speaker's Bureau volunteers must make at least a three-month commitment and are used on an on-call basis. Training is required. Kids' Cafe volunteers must work at least once per month on weekday afternoons/evenings. Training is required. Warehouse volunteers must be 12 or older and must wear closed-toed shoes. No sandals are allowed in the warehouse.

Volunteer Position Title: Volunteer

Volunteer Position Title: Home Meal Delivery Volunteer

Description of duties and/or responsibilities: Need drivers to deliver lunch to homebound, elderly and disabled citizens of Wake County,  Monday through Friday.

Volunteer Position Title: Volunteer

Description of duties and/or responsibilities: Need volunteers for many tasks.   Babysitting, tutoring, supervisors, receptionists, data entry, special projects, handymen, stock clerk.  Mentors for men and women, tutors, child care for the Children's Learning Center, drivers, couriers to pick up food.  Could use a student group to do off-site volunteering such as collecting food, medicine.  Call for more information.  Art support (i.e. paint murals on walls, teach art classes), barber or hairstylist, building maintenance, assist with child care in playroom.  Clerical, computer support, evening assistant to men, food service in our kitchen for lunch and dinner, front desk administrator, fundraising, grounds maintenance.  Could use trained medical volunteers in our Medical Clinic.  Public relations, teacher, warehouse assistance (Christmas time especially).

Description of duties and/or responsibilities: Help with homework and organize games with children. There are many areas in which the Salvation Army needs assistance. There are many opportunities for volunteers in areas such as food distribution, filing, typing, sorting clothes, shelter repairs and cleaning.

What are the time requirements and or special skills needed for this position: Help is needed three nights a week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) for one hour (preferably 7pm to 8pm). Volunteers are also needed during office hours (8:30am to 5pm). The only special skill required is a desire to assist an organization whose mission is to help those individuals in society who are most in need.  Interested volunteers will be asked to complete an application and meet with a member of our staff.  Flexible.
