Application Deadlines
Our online application is available via WolfPAW, your NC State Personal Admissions Website. Application deadlines and notification dates vary according to whether you are applying for freshman or transfer admission, your intended curriculum, semester of entry, and your citizenship status. Please note the categories and dates listed below. If you fall into more than one category you should apply by 5pm on the earlier deadline.
Note: Every year large numbers of applicants wait until just before the deadline to submit their applications and required materials. If you apply early, your application will be processed before those who submit at the last moment and we can inform you sooner whether one of your required items is missing. It is in your interest to apply before the rest of the crowd.
Freshmen - Summer / Fall Admission (Domestic)
NC State University has adopted a Deadline and Notification Date system for most freshmen applicants. There will be four application completion deadlines and four corresponding notification dates. The application must be submitted by 5pm and required materials postmarked by the application deadline in order to receive an admission decision on the corresponding notification date. If you do not meet a deadline your application will be reviewed in the next notification period.
An application is complete when it has been submitted and all required items (transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, and the application fee) have been received at our office. Applications are typically reviewed for completeness within 6 weeks of the date the application was submitted. It is the applicant's responsibility to make sure the required items are sent to NC State. We will contact you by email if we find that any required items are missing.
All admissions notifications are non-binding. Accepted students have until May 1 to let us know whether they plan to enroll at NC State.
The freshman application deadlines and notification dates for U.S. citizens and permanent residents (green card holders) are:
Deadline 1: October 15
Notification Date: December 15
Deadline 2: November 1 - Early Action Deadline
Notification Date: January 30
Note: Scores from the October 2007 SAT exam will arrive in time for Early Action applicants if sent electronically by the College Board when results for that exam are released.
Applications received and completed by the November 1 Early Action deadline will be considered for NC State University's highly selective merit-based campus scholarships. .
Deadline 3 and College of Design deadline: December 1
Notification Date: March 15
Final Review Deadline: February 1
Final Review Notification Date: March 30
Applications received and completed after the February 1 Final Review Deadline will be considered on the basis of space availability.
A detailed explanation of NC State's Notification Date system and answers to frequently asked questions can be found on our Notification Date FAQ.
Freshmen - Spring Admission (Domestic)
Apply by November 1 for spring admission. All required items must be received by this date. Decisions are posted as files are completed and applications are reviewed. We begin reviewing applications on October 15.
Note: Freshman applicants who were denied on their inital application for admission should complete 30 hours of transferable credits at another school before reapplying as a transfer student. If you were denied fall admission and apply again for the spring semester without having improved your academic credentials, your application will likely be denied.
College of Design - Freshmen and Transfer (Domestic and Int'l)
The College of Design accepts freshman and transfer applicants for the fall semester only. If you are interested in a College of Design major it should be listed as your first choice and your application should be submitted and complete (not just postmarked) by December 1 (by November 1 to be considered for merit-based scholarships on campus). The College of Design will not consider second choices for Design majors.
Your application will be reviewed by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and, if found to be academically competitive, we will forward it to the College of Design for review. We will notify you on January 15 whether your application is still under review for your first choice major in the College of Design or is now being considered for your second choice major in a different college at NC State. You will receive an admission decision on March 15.
Transfer Students (Domestic)
Decisions are posted as files are completed and applications are reviewed. Apply by April 1 for fall admission. If you are applying for spring admission, your application must be complete by November 1. We begin reviewing applications on October 15.
