How long does the admissions process take?
The time required to process an application varies according to a number of factors including time of year, the number of applications submitted before yours, and whether your supporting documentation and application fee are received on time.
We review applications in the order in which they are received. Once someone from our office has an opportunity to review your application we will know whether it is complete and will contact you by email to let you know if anything is missing. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery, routing and processing of any documents sent to our office before their receipt will be reflected in your Missing Items list. Additional information about the steps in the application review process can be found on your WolfPAW application status screen.
Admission decision notification dates vary according to whether you are applying for freshman or transfer admission, your intended curriculum, semester of entry, and your citizenship status.
Freshman Admission - Fall Semester (Domestic)
Decisions for most applicants for freshman admission will be released on specific dates depending on when the application was submitted and completed (all required items received at our office).
Decisions in December and January may be to admit, deny, or defer the application for Final Review at the end of March. If the application is deferred it provides you an opportunity improve your academic credentials by sending a mid-year transcript and new test scores.
Decisions rendered in March may be to admit, deny, or wait-list. If wait-listed, the applicant will have the opportunity to keep the application under consideration for admission in the event space in the class becomes available. Final admission decisions for wait-listed applicants will be made in June.
College of Design
Applicants whose first-choice major is in the College of Design will be notified of an Admission decision on March 15. The application will be reviewed initially by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. If the application is determined to be academically competitive it will be referred to the College of Design, which will consider the application and may ask to review an applicant's portfolio and/or conduct an interview. The College of Design will return the application to Undergraduate Admissions with a recommendation; if the recommendation is not to admit to Design for the first-choice major, Undergraduate Admissions will review the application for admission in the second-choice major.
Note: The College of Design does not review applications for second-choice preferences.
Spring Admission
Applications for spring semester admission are processed on a priority basis during the fall so that applicants can have a decision as soon as possible. Applicants are notified of a decision on their application as soon as it is available.
Transfer Admission
Transfer admission decisions are announced on a rolling basis as soon as a decision is made. Because coursework required to meet transfer admission requirements must be completed at the time we review your application for an admission decision, we may need to wait for your final transcripts to make an admission decision. If it is necessary to wait for courses currently in progress we will inform you by US Mail. We will not consider coursework still in progress at the time a decision on your
application is made.
International Applicants
People who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents should refer to the application process and deadlines for International Applicants. Note that our spring semester begins in January and our fall semester begins in August.
Agricultural Institute Admission
Applicants to the the two-year Agricultural Institute program are notified of a decision on their application as soon as it is available.
